No cattle were lost at the Kavango Cattle Ranch over the past 12 months due to illness, Namibia Industrial Development Agency (NIDA) CEO Richwell Lukonga has said.

A lack of land to set up permanent structures and hatchery systems in the country is one of the key challenges faced by the Konguavi Chicken Project. 

The initiative stocks more than 900 egg-laying breeds.

It currently operates from a leased plot situated on the outskirts of Gobabis.

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani, acknowledged the government's progress in addressing water challenges but emphasised that urgent needs remain, particularly in rural areas.

Livestock farming communities are encouraged to continue proper supplementary feeding practices, as the recent good rainfall across much of the country provides favourable conditions. These practices are essential for boosting fertility rates, increasing revenue.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Ruth Masake, has encouraged farming communities in the Omaheke Region to embrace continuous improvement in livestock breeding.

Masake was speaking at the 5th annual RiVeKa livestock production auction at Okorukambe.

The government has allocated N$2.56 billion to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform for the 2025/2026 financial year.
