The four-year-old girl from the Omaheke Region who was physically abused by her cousins is recovering well.

The Omaheke Governor, in company with some government officials and Standard Bank, visited the family to check on the girl's condition.

The girl from Ourunduwozondjima was mercilessly beaten by her three cousins, themselves minors, last month.

Government called to speed up drought relief scheme

Farmers from drought-stricken regions are calling on the government to fast-track the drought relief scheme so that they can get fodder to feed their animals.

Malnutrition a key concern

The Nutrition and Food Security Alliance of Namibia (NAFSAN) says 600 children die from malnutrition-related deaths annually.

Forty malnutrition-related deaths under the age of five have been reported in the Omaheke Region in the past four months.

The deaths were recorded at health facilities in Omaheke between December last year and March this year.

The Director of NAFSAN said this while addressing the media engagement on Namibia's Nutrition and Food Security Crisis in Windhoek.

Farm Skoonheid community blames government for poor living standard

A group of marginalised communities residing at Farm Skoonheid in the Omaheke Region blame the government for failing to develop the area and improve their living standards.

This includes the right to own farming land, the late supply of food support, and the lack of any health facilities.

They said this during a meeting with the Office of the Ombudsman at the farm.

The manager at Sandune Game Lodge, Hendrik Niemandt, has called on residents of the Omaheke Region to capitalise on opportunities arising from tourism and hunting activities.

Niemandt believes that taking advantage of such opportunities will not only contribute to the regional economy but also improve the livelihoods of the inhabitants, while also boosting the agricultural sector, among others.

The Fishing company spent N$500,000 in two different villages in the region.

Speaking at the handover of the borehole at Kalpan village in the Epukiro constituency, the Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Sylvia Makgone, applauded the company for improving the livelihoods of the community.

The concerned parents had a list of allegations ranging from a drop in academic performance and unprofessionalism from the school staff to mismanaging school funds.
