RA CEO expresses discontent over delayed Engoyi-Omuntele road upgrade

The Roads Authority (RA) Chief Executive Officer is not impressed with the slow progress on the Engoyi-Omuntele road upgrade.

The road construction commenced in October last year and was to be completed by September this year.

On a site visit to the project, Conrad Lutombi said the project is behind schedule by two and a half months.

N$20 million was supposed to be spent so far on the project, but to date, the contractor has only used N$5 million.

Zambezi Governor calls for unity and economic progress in 34-Year-Old Namibia

Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu says Namibia, as a young nation of 34 years, needs to uphold unity and work towards economic development and progress.

Sampofu called upon the youth to use education as a tool to shape a brighter future for today's generation and those to come, and to pledge to positively contribute to the country's economic development and growth.

After gaining independence in 1975, Angola authorised PLAN to use its southern territory to launch and fight the war in Namibia in 1976. 

Progress on National Sex Offenders' Register

The Minister of Justice, Yvonne Dausab, says the ministry has made progress with regards to draft legislation on a National Sex Offenders' Register.

Dausab is hopeful that the existence of such a register could deter would-be sexual offenders.

Two years ago, President Hage Geingob promised during his State of the Nation Address that the government would enact a National Sex Offenders Register and a Child Justice Bill within twelve months.

Uuvudhiya water canal progress

The rehabilitation work on the Namwater canal from Olushandja Dam to Uuvudhiya Constituency, stretching over 130 kilometres, is said to be progressing well.

The N$3 million project is funded by the Office of the Prime Minister and is expected to be completed by September this year.

The project, which commenced in April, has so far seen the canal cleared for the free flow of water from Olushandja leading to Tsandi and other surrounding villages without any hindrance.

Works Minister satisfied with Charlie Cutline District Road upgrades progress

The Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa is satisfied with the progress made with the upgrades on the Charlie Cutline District Road, located some 70km west of Rundu.

John Mutorwa reiterated that the development of rural roads is a crucial undertaking towards the socio-economic transformation of rural villages.


The construction of the first phase of the road covering a distance of 40km commenced in June this year and is expected to be completed in December.
