Batswana group of Namibian descent to be repatriated

The Namibian government is preparing for the repatriation of a group of Batswana of Namibian descent.

The group will be received at Gam.

The returnees are those whose forefathers fled to Botswana during the German era.

The government, through the National Youth Service (NYS), has been hard at work preparing a 21-hectare piece of land in Gam for the returning families to settle on.

The team on site is still waiting on the arrival of gravel stones for making concrete before the rest of the fencing poles will be erected.

Namibia committed to improving the lives of people with disabilities

The Namibian government remains committed to improving the lives of people with disabilities.

Hardap Governor Salomon April said this while donating food parcels to people with disabilities at Aranos, courtesy of Rani Trading Group.

The Office of the Hardap Governor also spoiled people with disabilities with a warm meal after the handing-over ceremony.

The event also saw the handover of traditional attire and shoes to the Salomon Boois Primary School cultural group.

Namibia committed to widening access to institutions of higher learning- Mbumba

The Namibian government is committed to widening access to institutions of higher learning in the country.

This was said by Vice President Nangolo Mbumba when he inaugurated the University of Namibia's (UNAM) Southern Campus lecture hall complex at Keetmanshoop in the ||Kharas Region.

The government invested N$93 million for the first phase of the construction of the campus.

The construction of the complex, which consists of lecture halls, geoscience laboratories, and administration offices, started in 2016.

MoHAISS dismisses favoritism allegations

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security (MoHAISS) has dismissed information circulating on social media alleging favoritism in the issuance of Namibian citizenship and permits to foreign nationals who purchased residential property in the "Presidents Links Estate" at Walvis Bay.

In a statement, the Home Affairs Ministry says it welcomes investment into the country and issues qualified foreign investors with relevant permits in line with laws and procedures.

Music producer Araffath Muhuure dies

The Namibian music industry is mourning the death of a well-known music producer, Araffath Muhuure, who died on Friday, aged 40.

Muhuure was known for his innovative work and collaborations with some of the biggest names in the industry.

Araffath Muhuure began his career as a sound engineer in the 1980s, playing several musical instruments during Sunday services.

Two men appear in Katima Mulilo Magistrate's Court on possession of elephant tusks charge

A Namibian and Zambian national appeared in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate's Court on charges of being in possession of elephant tusks.

Richard Njangula Malosi, famously known as "Dime U Fume," aged 59 and his Zambian co-accused, Mashule Mate 34, were found in possession of six pairs of elephant tusks at Kongola.

The duo opted to conduct their own defense and indicated further that they would plead guilty to the charges.

Dime u fume is further facing a charge of contravening the Immigration Control Act, by harboring a person who has no legal documents.

UN continues to support local businesses in Namibia

The outgoing UN Resident Coordinator says the UN office in Namibia will continue to support the ''Buy Local, Grow Namibia'' campaign.

The ''Buy Local, Grow Namibia'' campaign, launched last year in collaboration with the government and stakeholders, encourages support for local businesses and self-reliance.

Sen Pang shared an update with President Hage Geingob, including the training aspect added to the campaign.

The UN diplomat also commented on Namibia's classification by the World Bank as an upper middle-income country.

Chinese company pledges support to social activities to foster friendship among Chinese and Namibians

The Project Manager of the China Henan International Cooperation Group, Zhang Hongbo, says the company will continue to invest in social activities in the country to foster friendship among Chinese and Namibian citizens.

He was speaking during the official opening of the annual Tses Spring Festival.

The China Henan International Cooperation Group is rehabilitating and widening the road between Tses and Gibeon.
