Namibia and Botswana have signed a twinning agreement through the Zambezi Regional Council and the Chobe District Council in Kasane, Botswana.
The agreement focuses on areas of local economic development, environment and waste management, shared riverine resources, culture, and sports.
The agreement is meant to enhance economic and people-to-people cooperation while facilitating regular engagements between local and traditional authorities.
The ministers responsible for international affairs undertook a joint visit, in line with the provisions of the memorandum of understanding on political and diplomatic consultations and with their commitment to the continued consolidation of bilateral cooperation to promote good neighbourliness and peaceful coexistence.
The two ministers called for speedy implementation of the agreement, noting that the two countries should enjoy equal access and treatment to their shared natural resources along the common riverine boundary.
They also underscored the importance of strengthening relations between regional, local, and traditional authorities.
