The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), led by Dr. Panduleni Itula, is calling for substantial reforms as the party heads into a crucial election on November 27, 2024.
During his opening address at the party's National Elective Conference, Dr. Itula outlined the pressing socio-economic challenges facing Namibia, including high unemployment, inadequate healthcare, and pervasive gender-based violence.
Dr. Itula highlighted the struggles faced by young Namibians, such as those dealing with repeatability in education and university graduates who remain unemployed despite their qualifications. He also underscored the silent epidemic of gender-based violence, urging for effective interventions and protective measures.
“These issues are a direct result of the current leadership’s failure to address the needs of our people,” Dr. Itula stated. “It is time to confront these challenges with seriousness and commitment.” He thus emphasised the need for candidates who are dedicated to transparency, unity, and progress in the upcoming election.
The IPC is holding an elective conference to select 96 members for the 8th Parliament, drawn from Namibia's 14 regions, representing Namibia's demography.
Dr. Itula urged delegates to choose leaders who will focus on creating laws that promote job creation, protect natural resources, and improve socio-economic conditions. “We need leaders who will prioritise Namibia’s needs and uphold the principles of integrity and service,” he added.
In addition to the election preparations, the IPC will launch its manifesto on Saturday, outlining its vision and plans for addressing Namibia’s systemic issues and restoring dignity to its democratic institutions. The manifesto is expected to provide a comprehensive blueprint for a more equitable and prosperous future for Namibia.
