The Erongo Police seized drugs worth N$2.5 million in just four months. Erongo Police Regional Commander Commissioner Nikolaus Kupembona released the figures in Walvis Bay, covering the period from October 2025 to date.

About 180 drug-related cases were registered, leading to the arrest of 221 suspects.
Namibian male suspects formed the majority, making up 189 of the total, followed by 23 Namibian females and 9 foreign nationals.

Officers confiscated more than 36 kilograms of skunk cannabis, valued at N$1.8 million, along with mandrax tablets, crack cocaine, cocaine powder, crystal meth, high-grade cannabis, illicit cigarettes, alcohol and abortion pills.

Despite what the commissioner described as a success, the fight is far from over, as police attempt to convince reluctant members of the public who receive favours from drug dealers to come forward.

"And then also drug dealers are using vulnerable members of society, especially minors. Some of them are pensioners, unemployed youth, homeless people, and scholars who sell drugs. By the end of the day, these vulnerable people are arrested, which creates the perception that only vulnerable people are being targeted. The public is also encouraged to share information through police suggestion boxes."

Kupembona also addressed the seizure of abortion tablets, linking them to cases of abandoned babies.

"Let us save lives rather than killing innocent babies. That is why I encourage the public not to use these abortion pills because of failed relationships or other factors associated with abortion. Members of the public are welcome to take unwanted babies to shelters or place them in a safe location where the baby can be saved."

Commissioner Kupembona thanked officers working around the clock, as well as community members who continue to provide tip-offs.
Authorities say the crackdown will continue.
