The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security has launched visa on arrival services at an additional four entry points, bringing the total number of entry points in Namibia with visa on arrival to 11.

The new entry points are Oshikango, Mohembo, Ariamsvlei, Noordoewer, and Oranjemund Border Posts.

During the launch, the Home Affairs Minister stated that the decision to implement visas on arrival for tourists and visitors is in line with the principles and agenda of the African Union for Africa's integration agenda and visa-free Africa.

Dr. Albert Kawana emphasised that this move contributes to Namibia's strategies to improve the performance of the economy through tourism.

"With today's launch, I have no doubt that the Ohangwena and Karas Regions will experience an increase in tourist arrivals through the mentioned five border posts. Experience has taught us that visas on arrival have made it easy for tourists and visitors to come to Namibia hassle-free."

Mureal Van Rooyen, the office manager of TASA, commented on the major change, stating.

"This definitely plays a big role for us, as we already have other borders opened up. However, the mention of these additional borders will make it smoother for tourists and will be welcomed by the industry, as they won't have to apply for visas in advance."

Tourists and visitors from countries where Namibia does not have diplomatic representation are expected to benefit from this new policy.

"This decision follows previous positive steps taken by the Namibian Government over the past years, where over 60 countries worldwide were exempted from visa requirements when their citizens visited Namibia for tourism purposes. In 2019, nationals from 45 countries started benefiting from visas on arrival. In 2023, the list was reviewed, and 11 countries were added. Today, citizens from 58 countries can receive visas on arrival."

The visa on arrival applies to tourists, potential investors, visitors attending meetings, seminars, workshops, friendship and family visits, as well as medical visits. The visa is applicable for visitors with ordinary, official, or diplomatic passports.

"I want to make it clear that this arrangement excludes individuals coming to Namibia for work or employment purposes, as they are required to apply and obtain employment permits in advance."

The procedure for visas on arrival will require visitors to complete a visa application form upon arrival at the border post.

The visa will be processed on the spot at a cost of N$1200.
