The Executive Director of the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology (MICT) has urged the Kavango East Regional Council's leadership to build communication skills with effectiveness and improve productivity.

Dr. Audrin Mathe made this call during a public relations and media management workshop in Windhoek.

The long-week engagement's objective is to oversee distribution and analysis, ensuring that communication efforts align with the goals set by organisations and resonate with the target audience.

Dr. Mathe, at the opening of the workshop, shared his experiences in speech and political communication.

"As a communications officer, you need to have three essential skills. In no particular order, you need to learn about crisis management; the other is that you have to acquire skills in political communication, and you are going to need speech communication skills."

Kavango East Regional Council's Chairperson, Damian Maghambayi, stated that the issue of communication is critical to preventing information from being distorted.

"The issue of communication is quite critical. The purpose of the workshop is to empower the Kavango East Regional Council with comprehensive skills, knowledge, and the requisite expectations and understanding of how to deal with communication strategies."

Public Relations Institute of South Africa President Phuti Mothapo, who is facilitating the training, uttered the aim of the communication department in organisations.

"As an organisation that represents people that are in the profession of public relations and communications, we advocate for better communication advancement, good relations, stakeholder engagement, crisis communications, and anything that has to do with communication, but more importantly, as an organisation, we are a member of the Global Alliance, which is an organisation at the international level that represents practitioners with a membership of around 320 000 professionals at both higher levels and lower levels."
