The 6th Session of the Children's Parliament, themed "Transforming Education in Namibia," resulted in the adoption of several key motions.

Among the adopted motions were calls for increased funding for schools in marginalised communities, improved mental health support for learners, and the re-introduction of vocational training to reduce dropout rates.

The young parliamentarians also emphasised the need for climate education in the national curriculum and measures to mitigate climate change impacts on education.

Health and child safety were prioritised with motions to enhance maternal and child health services, improve safety in school hostels, and better implement anti-trafficking laws.

The Children's Parliament also called for improved infrastructure for children with disabilities and more SOS homes for homeless children.

Notably, the young parliamentarians urged the government to declare a state of emergency on violence against children and ensure clean and safe water for 80% of Namibian children.

They also stressed the importance of combating harmful cultural practices and uplifting the boy child.

Held from the 12th to the 19th of July at the National Assembly Chambers in Windhoek, the gathering brought together 64 young parliamentarians from across Namibia.

The session concluded with a strong call to action for leaders and stakeholders to collaborate in empowering and uplifting Namibian youth.

Receiving the Communique from the young parliamentarian was Member of Parliament Gotthard Kasuto, who emphasised the urgency of ensuring the voices of young Namibians are not only heard but integrated into meaningful policy interventions.
