Former Justice Minister Sacky Shanghala has bemoaned the continued separation of the Fishrot accused at the Windhoek Correctional Facility, arguing that it hampers their ability to prepare for trial.

Appearing before Judge Moses Chinhengo, Shanghala stressed that the accused needed to coordinate their defence effectively.

The case has faced multiple delays, with some of the accused struggling to secure legal representation.

Judge Chinhengo questioned the state on the options available should the accused fail to obtain funding for their defence.

In response, the prosecution suggested that, if all else fails, the accused should either represent themselves or the court should order the state to cover their legal costs.

The long-running Fishrot corruption trial, involving allegations of large-scale bribery in Namibia’s fishing sector, continues to face legal hurdles.
