A new chapter in Namibia's history was written as former President Nangolo Mbumba, a steady force over the past year, officially handed over the reins of power to Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the first woman to hold the highest office in Namibia. 

This historic occasion also coincided with Namibia's 35th Independence Anniversary celebration. 

The day marked not just a leadership transition but a powerful commitment to a future defined by hope and unity. 

Mbumba described Nandi-Ndaitwah as the leading daughter, breaking through the glass ceiling and symbolising the courage of the women and men who fought for Namibia's independence as well as the ongoing struggle for gender equality and justice.

Saying his final goodbyes, Mbumba reflected on his tenure, describing it as eventful and relentless, with little time to catch his breath. 

He expressed that being the President of Namibia was a great honour, one that was bestowed not upon anyone carrying the name Mbumba.

The President expressed gratitude to all those who stood by him throughout his presidency, acknowledging their support and dedication.

As Namibia celebrates its 35th anniversary, Mbumba reflected on the legacy of the late Founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma, and all the leaders who played a significant role in the country's liberation.

He honoured their contributions and the sacrifices made in the pursuit of Namibia's independence.

Mbumba's presidency will be remembered for its emphasis on national stability and development, steering the country through difficult economic times while maintaining strong diplomatic ties. 

His leadership set the stage for the emergence of new political and economic opportunities in the southern African region.
