"Give space to the youth" were the words of Dr. Albert Kawana, former Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, as he bid farewell to his staff this week.

It was a celebratory and joyous occasion where employees, family, and dignitaries gathered and gave Kawana his flowers while he could smell them, according to the directors of the ceremony at the event.

Minister Kawana, a law graduate known for his humility, voluntarily retires, deciding to return to his village after years of dedicated service. In his farewell speech, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and encouraged youth to lead the country further.

His deputy, Lucia Witbooi, praised his leadership and guidance, thanking him for his mentorship and support throughout their work together.

From the family side, his eldest son, Brown Kawana, shared personal moments, highlighting his father's humility, a trait that has defined his career and personal life.

Lt. General Joseph Shikongo, Inspector General of the Police, spoke about the transformative changes that occurred under Minister Kawana's leadership.

Ettiene Maritz, Executive Director of the Ministry, spoke of Kawana's humility.

As Minister Kawana takes his retirement, his legacy of humility, service, and transformative leadership will be remembered, marking the end of a significant chapter in Namibia's history.
