Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge said the region is making significant progress in accelerating service delivery to both its inhabitants and visitors across its 11 constituencies.
Iipinge made these remarks during his reflection on his first 100 days in office as the region's head, in the presence of councillors and members of the public in Oshakati.
During his 100 days, Iipinge reports that he undertook familiarisation visits to local authorities and traditional leaders across all constituencies to acquaint himself with their strides and challenges that define the region.
The governor further noted that the region's three major towns, Ondangwa, Ongwediva, and Oshakati, remain committed to upgrading infrastructure and providing land for residential and business purposes, among other developments.
Iipinge urged the region's leaders to unite to ensure the region achieves its various goals, which align with the government's seven key performance areas.
"All matters raised during the visits were channelled to the relevant ministries, and further engagements continue in an effort to address those shortcomings. Despite the challenges, I am proud to report that all government facilities listed have access to potable water and electricity, reflecting commendable progress in basic service delivery."
Traditional authorities he visited expressed major concerns about limited funds, a lack of vehicles, and the unregulated proliferation of churches.
On youth development and employment creation, he stated that the period under review recorded notable progress in mitigating the crisis through advanced youth empowerment undertakings.
"Within the Oshana Region, three youth-owned projects were approved and funded at a total of N$839,000, focusing on aquaculture (Iyaloo Fisheries), recycling and waste management, and media and creative industries (Nyanyu Media), together creating 21 new employment opportunities."
Ipinge also stated that the issue of access roads connecting the southern parts of the region will be addressed within two weeks, with contractors ready to commence.
The governor demands that future efforts focus on greater collaboration for innovation and accountability in the region.
