Namibian police have reported seven suicides across the country during the New Year period.

The incidents occurred between December 31 and January 4.

In Tsintsabis, Oshikoto Region, a 25-year-old man's body was found hanging from a tree after he was reported missing from his sleeping room. A suicide note was discovered, and police said no foul play is suspected.

In Rehoboth, Hardap Region, a 44-year-old man was found hanging in a garage at a house in Rehoboth Block D. Police said he had previously attempted suicide; no suicide note was found.

In Walvis Bay, Erongo Region, a 30-year-old man was found hanging in a bathroom at a house on Okakarara Street, Havana. Police said no suicide note was found and no foul play is suspected.

In Omaruru, Erongo Region, a 37-year-old man's body was found hanging from a tree near the river behind a secondary school. Police said he had left his house earlier that morning; no suicide note was found.

Also in Omaruru, a 32-year-old correctional officer died from a gunshot wound to the forehead at the Namibian Correctional Facility. Police said he was found with a service pistol; investigations continue.

In Onayena, Oshikoto Region, a 60-year-old woman was found hanging from a tree in her yard. Police said no suicide note was left.

At Oshilevo, also in the Oshikoto Region, a 32-year-old woman's body was found hanging from a tree in nearby bushes after she was reported missing from home. Police said a rope tied to a branch was found at the scene; no suicide note was left.
