Preparations are currently underway for the regional independence celebrations in the Zambezi Region, with the regional preparatory committee saying arrangements are at an advanced stage.

Over 7,000 people in Zambezi are expected to flock to Bukalo on the 21st of March, which has been chosen as the host town in the region this year.

Committees have been established and are coordinating logistics to ensure the event runs smoothly.

The head of the preparatory committee and Chief Executive Officer of the Bukalo Village Council, Anna Lyamnine-Sazita, stated that the absence of a suitable sports facility capable of accommodating the anticipated number of attendees would not impede the plans for the celebration.

"We are facing a challenge regarding the lack of a sports stadium; we don't have one yet, but just last Friday, we conducted a groundbreaking for a new sports stadium. However, this will not prevent us from hosting the independence celebration. We have ample land in Bukalo that we will utilise to ensure people can come and celebrate here, and we invite everyone to join us for this event."

Traditional authorities across the region have been invited to attend, with Sazita noting that members of the Masubia Traditional Authority, which is located in Bukalo, visited the proposed venue to assess the site.

"The Masubia Traditional Authority visited the site to assess where the independence celebration will take place, and they were pleased with the space. The space is vast, and they are happy. They are ready to come and attend and join us during the celebration."

Transport arrangements are also being coordinated by the logistics and transport committee to ensure that people from different constituencies in the region are able to travel to Bukalo for the event.
