The Chairperson of the National Council has urged members of parliament to carefully scrutinise the appropriation bill to ensure that public resources advance the objectives of improving the life of citizens.

Lukas Muha said this during the opening of the National Council's first session of the 7th parliament.

The National Assembly passed and referred the Appropriation Bill to the National Council for review.

MPs will deliberate on and review funds allocated to various ministries.

The chairperson of the National Council urged MPs to maintain the decorum and remain respectful during debates.

"The bill is central to funding the development and the operational programmes of government, and it is our duty to ensure that these resources are allocated transparently and directed towards the priority or priorities of our business in alignment with the National Development Plan, or NDP6 and other frameworks."

Muha also urged newly elected members of various standing committees to be efficient with tangible results and for citizens to feel the impact thereof.

The National Council will sit from 5 May to the 19th.
