LPM MP advocates for establishment of Namibian Creative Hall of Fame

The Landless People's Movement member of parliament in the National Assembly, Henny Seibeb, is advocating for the discourse concerning the establishment of the Namibian Creative Hall of Fame, which will encompass a wide spectrum of creative domains, supporting and acknowledging both current and late local artists.

Seibeb stressed that the initiative will help artists display their talents and help those who do not have the same advantage.

LPM advocates for local job placements

The Landless People's Movement's (LPM) Chief Change Campaigner is calling upon the Namibian government, parastatals, and companies, particularly in the mining sector, to allocate at least a quarter of their job placements to local residents.

Bernadus Swartbooi was speaking at a media conference in Tsumeb.

Swartbooi says the LPM is ready and willing to engage leaders of the mines in and around Tsumeb towards ensuring that residents of the town benefit first when job opportunities arise.

LPM wants Outjo CEO sacked

Landless People's Movement Chief Change Campaigner Bernadus Swartbooi has called on the Outjo Municipality to let go of its Chief Executive Officer, Josef |Urib.

Swartbooi made this call during a media conference in Outjo.

Last December, the Outjo Council took the decision that Josef |Urib, who served as the Outjo Municipality's Chief Executive Officer since 1999 until last year, should resign.

He was given an extension until this year's April; however, he's still in office.

LPM maintains stance to pre-allocate land to landless Namibians

LPM has maintained its stance to pre-allocate land to landless Namibians, saying it's the only solution to the housing problem in the country.

Land delivery in Namibia requires a multi-faceted approach to ensure that every citizen has a place to build a roof over their heads.

In order to fast-track this, the Keetmanshooop Municipality started allocating land to residents at Krönlein and Tseiblaagte to a suburb.

LPM terminates Vernon Coleman's membership

The Landless Peoples' Movement (LPM) has terminated the membership of Vernon Coleman with immediate effect, a few hours after he led a protest against LPM Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency Councillor Joseph Isaack.

The expulsion letter to Coleman states that the party's founding executive, in line with the party's constitution, decided to terminate his membership.

The move, the letter states, was consequent to Coleman's actions and conduct, which were found to be against the values and principles of the party.

LPM protests against Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency Office councillor

Disgruntled Landless Peoples' Movement (LPM) members and supporters at Keetmanshoop staged a protest against the Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency Office, accusing the sitting councillor, Joseph Isaack, of having failed to implement any socio-economic developmental project.

Isaack, representing LPM, took office after the 2019 regional elections.

Marching through the streets of Keetmanshoop, protestors demanded the removal of Councillor Isaack, claiming that he was never available when needed by the electorate, which voted him into office.

Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency prepares for by-election

More than 6,675 eligible voters in the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency are expected to cast their ballots on May 15.

The by-election was necessitated by the expulsion of former LPM Councillor Gerrit Witbooi.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says the supplementary registration was completed this month.

Candidates who will contest the by-election are Johannes Eiman of the PDM, Elias !Kharuxab of the Swapo Party, Willem Labuschagne for the LPM, Magdalena van Staden of the IPC, and Gerrit Wibooi, an independent candidate.

Charlcyta Cooper resigns from LPM

Former Deputy Mayor of Keetmanshoop and councillor of the Landless People's Movement', Charlcyta Cooper has resigned from the party.

Cooper said she will hand over her resignation letter to the LPM. 

Cooper was elected deputy-mayor after local authority elections where the Landless People's Movement received four seats on the Keetmanshoop Municipal Council. 

Cooper informed nbc News that she and another councillor will soon hold a media conference to announce their resignation from LPM.

PDM to commemorate Clemens Kapuuo

The Popular Democratic Movement will commemorate the life of former Ovaherero Ombara Otjitambi and leader of the  Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA)  Clemens Kapuuo on Tuesday afternoon.

Kapuuo was assassinated by an unidentified gunman in Windhoek On Easter Monday in 1978.

Clemens Kapuuo, described by many as an advocate for democracy, played a critical role in Namibia attaining her  independence.

Following his killing, the largest military operation undertaken by South Africa since the Second World War, Operation Reindeer, was launched.
