ECN prepares for Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency by-election

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has started with preparations for the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency by-election. 

The by-election became necessary, following the expulsion of former regional councillor, Gerrit Witbooi by his party, Landless People's Movement. 

The ECN's Control Administrative Officer Thomas Shapi, when addressing stakeholders at Keetmanshoop announced that the supplementary registration of voters will start next week Tuesday and end on Friday.  

LPM's Gerrit Witbooi given seven days to prove accusations against Swartbooi

The leader of the Landless People's Movement Bernadus Swartbooi has given expelled former regional councillor Gerrit Witbooi seven days to give evidence that he verbally abused him or face legal action. 

Addressing a media conference at Keetmanshoop, Swartbooi charged that Witbooi accused him of having used abusive language towards his mother, a claim he strenuously denied. 

Stakeholders in Education put in efforts to tackle education sector challenges

Stakeholders in Education have called for collective efforts to tackle challenges facing the education sector.

The call was made during the one-day seminar on secondary education, organised by the Landless Peoples Movement.

The Principal of Rocky Crest High School Justine Klein says after the grade 11 and AS  results are released educators must organize workshops where they reassess the outcome and chart a way forward.

LPM condemn killing of Elleste Plaatjie allegedly by two police officers

The LPM is the latest to condemn the killing of Elleste Plaatjie allegedly by two police officers. 

Plaatjie succumbed to injuries he sustained after he was allegedly beaten by Nampol members attached to the Special Reserve Force at Keetmanshoop.  

Addressing a media conference at Keetmanshoop, LPM leader Bernardus Swartbooi urged the public at large to speak out against what he termed as police brutality. 

McDonald Hanse re-elected as Keetmanshoop Mayor

Councillor McDonald Hanse was re-elected as the Mayor of Keetmanshoop Town Council during the annual mayoral elections. 

Councillor Johannes Vries nominated Hanse for the mayoral position, which was seconded by Councillor Fatima Jossop. 

Vries was elected to serve as the council's management committee chairperson, a position previously held by councillor Easter Isaack. 

He was nominated by Jossop and seconded by Hanse for the latter position. 

LPM dismisses suggestions of underperforming in the ||Kharas Region

LPM has dismissed accusations of underperformance and failing to deliver, particularly in the ||Kharas Region, where they are the majority.

LPM Chief Change Campaigner, Bernadus Swaartbooi, says it's unfair to place any emphasis on failure, as the party is merely less than two years in control of both the ||Kharas and Hardap regional councils.

Addressing a media conference, Swartbooi said he is proud of the LPM's achievements in both regions thus far.

LPM must be responsive to remain relevant- Seibeb

The Landless People's Movement must be responsive to remain relevant to the aspirations of Namibians.

This was the view of the party's Deputy Leader, Henny Seibeb, when he addressed the capacity-building conference, being attended by the organising committee members and local authority councillors.

In his address, Seibeb reminded delegates to continuously engage in robust instigation on social issues, as well as hold those in power accountable to the public and help fix any irregularities.

LPM Lead Youth Commander calls for active youth participation in politics

The Lead Youth Commander of the Landless People's Movement's Youth Element, Duminga Ndala, has called for the active participation of young people in politics.

The LPM youth wing held its first conference at Rundu aimed at establishing youth structures in the Kavango East Region.

Ndala said young people's exclusion from decision-making would continue if they do not enter politics.

She noted that their forefathers had liberated Namibia from colonialism, and Ndala, therefore, urges the youth to channel their energy by becoming political activists.
