Otjiwarongo Municipality has promised to accelerate land delivery this year.

This is according to Mayor Gottlieb Shivute, speaking at the council's first meeting.

There are more than 5 000 people who applied for land at Otjiwarongo and Shivute says the Accelerated Land Delivery Programme was adopted in 2021.

PDM councilor Melba Tjozongoro elected as the town's new Mayor

The Gobabis Local Authority has elected PDM councilor Melba Tjozongoro as the new town Mayor.

Tjozongoro took over the mayoral position from outgoing Mayor Elvire Theron.

Katrina Nona Goreses of the Swapo Party retains her position as the town's deputy Mayor.

The following councilors were elected as members of the management committee of Gobabis municipality: Sylvester Binga, Isaak de Beer, and Elvire Theron.

The ceremony was officiated by Magistrate Eden Iyambo.

Outjo Mayor Johannes Bapello delivers 2022 Mayor's Report

The Outjo Municipality says it continues to be challenged in terms of water provision in the town due to low water pressure.

Mayor Johannes Bapello delivered his 2022 mayor's report at Outjo.

Bapello reports that the water level has been declining due to poor rainfall, and as such, the council has embarked on drilling new boreholes and plans to deepen existing ones through the 'Droom vir Outjo' initiative.

About 1,000 senior citizens at Walvis Bay each received a meal and a shopping voucher valued at N$300 as their Christmas gift.

The event was hosted by the Mayor of Walvis Bay, Trevino Forbes.

For some time, it was a joyous Christmas as they reconnected with old friends they hadn't seen in a long time.

Forbes stated that the elderly's wisdom and advice benefit communities and that the event was a token of appreciation.

Hundreds of people witnessed the switching on of Christmas lights at Swakopmund, signaling the start of the festive season.

The municipality has invited both local and international tourists to visit Swakopmund and support all festivities as a way to revive the economy.

For about two years, COVID-19 adversely affected the socio-economic status of Namibia, and Swakopmund, which heavily relies on tourism, needed a plan to attract visitors and thereby revive its economy.

Gabriel Kanyanga re-elected as mayor of Rundu for the second term

Gabriel Kanyanga was re-elected unopposed as mayor of Rundu for the second term.

Four of the seven councilors in the town council are from the Swapo Party.

Kanyanga said he accepts the challenge to lead the council with humility.

He called on the councilors to work together for the good of the town and its residents.

He also urged residents to pay their municipal bills so that the council could provide effective service delivery.

Windhoek Mayor to host Christmas lunch for elderly and less privileged at Zoo Park

The Mayor of Windhoek is expected to host a Christmas lunch for hundreds of elders as well as hand out gifts to the less privileged, starting this coming Friday at the Zoo Park.

Rundu Council backtracked to terminate its debt collection with RedForce

The Rundu Town Council has backtracked on its intention to terminate its three-year debt collection agreement with RedForce Debt Management Services. 

Rundu Mayor Gabriel Kanyanga was quoted in a local daily newspaper early this month saying the council had resolved to terminate the agreement. 

Kanyanga had cited a breach of the agreement by RedForce, on the advice of the Attorney General, as it failed to meet its five-million-dollar monthly collection target. 

McDonald Hanse re-elected as Keetmanshoop Mayor

Councillor McDonald Hanse was re-elected as the Mayor of Keetmanshoop Town Council during the annual mayoral elections. 

Councillor Johannes Vries nominated Hanse for the mayoral position, which was seconded by Councillor Fatima Jossop. 

Vries was elected to serve as the council's management committee chairperson, a position previously held by councillor Easter Isaack. 

He was nominated by Jossop and seconded by Hanse for the latter position. 

Omaheke Youth Business Trade Expo slated for 1-4 December 2022

These remarks were made during the official launch of the Omaheke Regional Youth Business Trade Expo at Gobabis.

The annual Omaheke Youth Business Trade Expo is slated to run from the 1st to the 4th of December.
