Vandalism and theft of water borehole equipment such as cylinders and solar panels are rampant in the Ohangwena Region.

This has left some communities without water during this critical time when it is needed most.

During the recent handover of deep boreholes to the community by the Office of the Prime Minister in the Ohangwena Region, the governor expressed disappointment with the irresponsible acts by criminals who are depriving the community of this scarce resource.

Copper cable theft a huge concern at Okahandja

Copper cable theft has been on the rise in Namibia, causing significant problems for electricity distribution companies and the communities they serve.

The town of Okahandja has become a hotspot for this dangerous criminal activity.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, residents of Smarties extension 9 in Okahandja were awakened by a loud sound, followed by a power outage.

At sunrise, residents noticed that three copper cables had been cut from a transformer supplying power to their houses. They promptly alerted CENORED officials, who responded quickly.

Burglars cause extensive damage at Keetmanshoop SME Park

Burglars caused extensive damage to the Keetmanshoop !Homs-Ai SME Park when they smashed the premises' glass doors to gain entry to offices and SME stalls. 

The break-in occurred over the weekend. 

Johannes Kisting, ||Kharas Regional Head for the Ministry of Industrialization and Trade, says police arrested one suspect in connection with the burglary. 

The regional head could, however, not say what items were stolen from the offices and the SME stalls during the burglary. 

Six arrested for fraud at Opuwo denied bail

Six men, arrested in Rundu in connection with fraud committed at Bank Windhoek's Opuwo Branch, made a brief appearance before the Rundu Magistrate's Court today.

They were denied bail, and the case was postponed until January 25.

The six are linked to the alleged mastermind behind the large-scale fraud, Nico Rebebe, who allegedly stole N$2 million from his employer.

Stock theft motion tabled in National Assembly

The motion outlines the evolution of farming as a Namibian value; it also discusses the prescriptive nature of the current regulatory framework against the objective of protecting stock.

The motion lobbies MPs as a source of primary law to assess the extent to which stock theft shakes and destabilises the foundation of people's livelihoods.

Elderly woman evicted from Cando Farm still homeless

Priskilla Dausas, 71, who was evicted from Cando Farm three years ago, is still homeless.

Dausas was moved next to the fence opposite the road when the new farm owner, with no use for new workers, took over.

At the time, Dausas recalls that she had many farm animals, but their numbers have dwindled with time, moving further away from Farm Cando each time.

She is currently placed near neighbouring Farm Paloma in the Omatako District, but the pensioner says she cannot stay here as cattle theft is on the rise in the area.

Police raise awareness on livestock theft

The Police in Kavango East Region are appealing to the residents to take care of their livestock and not desert them in crop fields.

Inspector Robert Katamba, the Community Affairs Unit Commander, says this is a peak time for livestock theft, a case in point being a farmer whose four cattle were stolen at Simpanda recently.

Inspector Katamba says thieves walk in groups because one or two cannot skin two cattle in a short period of time.

He called on the livestock owners not to leave their cattle unattended.

Robberies, theft, murder, suicide, culpable homicide, and possession of harmful substances were crimes reported by the Police this past weekend.

Three deaths by suicide were recorded, the first being Mashadia Marques, a resident of Windhoek's Dorado Valley.

She hanged herself at home, allegedly following an argument with her husband.

Sem Johannes from Windhoek's Wanaheda also hanged himself, while an Okahao resident identified only as Mapenzi also took his own life by hanging.

Fraud and theft allegations mar West Side High School

Swakopmund-based West Side High School is marred by allegations of fraud and theft.

A female teacher is currently out on bail of N$20,000, and an additional two arrests are expected to be executed this week by the Namibian Police.

A criminal case of theft has been opened against a Grade 11 teacher at the school after she allegedly embezzled about N$30,000, which was meant for the learners' Matric jackets.

The Bank of Namibia declines to comment on alleged N$60 billion theft

The Bank of Namibia has declined to comment on the alleged N$60 billion theft case currently being investigated by the Namibian Police. Instead, after being approached for comment on the alleged theft, BoN Director of Communications Kazembire Zemburuka directed nbc News to the Namibian Police.

"The matter is in the domain of law enforcement. All inquiries should be directed to the Namibian Police," read the online reply authored by Zemburuka.

On Wednesday, the Namibian police issued a report, in which it stated that Credit Union Namibia was defrauded of N$60 billion.
