Namibia’s commitment to and promotion of processes, systems, and institutions will continue to influence its development path.
President Hage Geingob emphasised this during the bilateral meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping on the margins of the BRICS Summit in Sandton on Thursday.
He said that during his tenure as Minister of Trade, he ensured that concerns around non-adherence to Namibian laws by some Chinese business people were addressed with China’s leadership.
Since then, Dr. Geingob says transparency and open dialogue have taken place among presidents and government officials, and he has implored ordinary citizens to do the same.
President Xi also stressed that China has found a development path that suits its national conditions under the leadership of the Communist Party.
He pointed out that China will definitely not become like former colonisers and therefore promote a world characterised by mutual respect and peace.
Therefore, President Xi emphasised that China embarked on the Belt and Road Initiative so that developing countries would participate in global development on an equal footing and not as dumping grounds.
He said China’s traditional relationship with Namibia and the Swapo Party will continue to grow in all areas of cooperation, given the similar histories of the two countries.
The Chinese leader further commended President Geingob and the Swapo Party and said China stands ready to assist Namibia at all times and will work with Geingob’s successor.
