Men attending the 4th National Men's Conference in Rundu described the event as both educational and enlightening.

This is the first time the conference has been held in Rundu.

Participants from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds gathered in the town for the event, organized by the Ministry of Gender in collaboration with several stakeholders.

The conference aimed to raise awareness among men about mental health, positive masculinity, and the causes and effects of gender-based violence.

Attendees learned the importance of resolving conflicts through effective communication rather than resorting to violence. Some men discovered the event through family members and chose to participate.

Josef Daniel, an attendee of the 4th National Men's Conference, shared:

“My cousin called me and mentioned a men's conference at the Rundu Trade Fair. I quickly took a shower and grabbed a cab to get here. I've learned a lot. I didn’t just sneak out; I informed my wife that I was going to the men's conference and would update her when I returned. Now I know what my next steps will be as a married man at home.”

Our news team spoke with several attendees:

“Not only women and children are affected by gender-based violence (GBV), but men are as well. However, men are often reluctant to report such cases due to societal perceptions that we must be strong. This conference was quite educational.”

“It’s a great opportunity for us to learn rational thinking. As men, we tend to be physical and often don’t share our problems, but this event encourages us to resolve issues through conversation.”

“We need to learn how to solve problems and communicate effectively. The conference is excellent and productive, and those men who are not here are truly missing out.”

This year's conference is themed "Redefining Masculinity: A Holistic Approach to Wellbeing."
